Grow Wānaka
About Us
Grow Wānaka is a community project established by like-minded locals who wanted to create a common space for people to gather, grow, learn and connect. What better place to do that than a garden. Grow Wānaka is for everyone whether you want to grow vegetables, learn to grow vegetables or connect with your community you're welcome.
We are about to celebrate our first birthday and a whole year of amazing work from the committee, volunteers and everyone who has contributed to this community project.

What We Do
Grow Wanaka is a community food hub, where we divert organic ‘waste’ from the landfill and grow nutrient-dense food with it instead. With a garden and composting facility, this project gives the community a space to engage with and learn about the importance of building soil as opposed to filling landfills.
We close the loop using urban farming and community composting, restoring nature’s cycle.
Aims
To improve local food resilience
To reduce waste from the landfill
To educate the community on how to recycle food scraps and organic matter, and grow nutritionally dense food
To provide carbon-negative job opportunities
